There will be a convention in my area in little more than a month, and there will be an artists alley. I had heard about artists alley from many of my DA friends, but I guess I had never really considered participating... until now.
But, since I have never joined one, I have many questions and I don't know who to ask...
I guess some things are different in each country, but I'd love to hear about your experiences and advice.
Is it worth it? Money-wise, probably not (from what I've heard) v_v I don't even have any ready prints, or any stuff to sell "physically" (except maybe original pictures I don't mind parting with? how much should I charge for an original picture?) So, I'd probably need to invest in prints, postcards and little things I could sell. It can cost a lot of money and I don't know if I'll sell anything.
But, at least, I can promote my art... I guess?
I'm considering it for the first time, but I don't know what to do. I've always attended conventions as a cosplayer, just to have fun. It's hard for me to think about going there to "work", and I'd be sad to miss the cosplay contest and other fun activities.
But I need to think about the future... I haven't been able to find a steady job in 7 years and my art is all I have right now. If it could help me with my career, I would give it a chance. And it would be a new experience!
Have you ever been part of an artists alley? How was the experience? Do you have any advice? Anything I shouldn't forget?
Also, if I were to make prints, postcards or posters, which of my drawings (original or fanart) would you like to see? Or popular characters I could draw before the con? Would you buy my art if you saw it at an artists alley?
I really don't know what to do, your advice is more than welcome!
